"CHILDREN AND PARENTS AGAINST CANCER"

The regional non-governmental public organization "Children and parents against a cancer" (St.-Petersburg) was founded in 1994.
The organization unites parents of children with cancer, parents of childhood cancer survivors and bereaved parents.

The organization's goals:

- advocating for children with cancer;
- providing access to the most progressive opportunities for treatment and rehabilitation for every child with cancer.

• Informing parents of children with cancer about the rights of their sick children and the rights of their families, helping to assert these rights;
• Representing the interests of children with cancer in organs of governmental authority and other official organs;
• Creating favorable legislation for the successful solution of the problems of children with cancer and the problems of their families;
• Informing the society about issues of childhood cancer through mass media and creating a the favorable public opinion for the discussion and solution problems of children with cancer;
• Helping to provide medicines and medical equipment which are lacking in hospitals;
• Organizing cultural and recreational activities and holidays for children with cancer who are undergoing treatment in hospitals;
• Organizing rest and relaxation for children with cancer and their siblings;
• Providing access to information for parents of children with cancer about their children disease, about new methods and possibilities for treatment in Russia and abroad;
• Carrying out charitable activities for the benefit of children with cancer;
• Searching for the blood donors for children with cancer undergoing treatment in hospitals.

Not everyone knows that children also could be stricken with cancer. One in 600 children fall ill with cancer before they are 15-year's old.
Every year more that 100 new cases of childhood cancer appear in St.-Petersburg.
While it is relatively rare disease among children, cancer remains the most dangerous.
Among the cauces for the death of children from age1 to 15, cancer occupies 1^st or 2d place along with accidents.
But in our time, fortunately, the diagnosis of "cancer" in a child is not yet sentence. In recent years world medicine has made immense progress in the field of a childhood oncology.
In developed countries today more than 70 % of children are completely cured. By comparison - in countries of the third world - less than 20 %.
Children who recover are mentally fully healthy and the overwhelming majority of them are physically fully healthy. When these children grow up, they become normal members of the society, receive education, including higher education, have their own families and children. If a child was ill at an early age and the parents concealed
the diagnosis from him,. Then when he grows up he doesn't even know that he had this terrible illness.
Children's chances for recovering their health in our day are determined, for the most part, only by the degree of access to qualified medical help, above all, expensive preparations.

In St.-Petersburg, for every child who goes through treatment for malignant tumors, less than 4 rubles per day are allocated from the budjet. The real requirement is from 250 rubles and higher. No many means no medicines, no hope, no chances of rescue.

If you consider it possible to give financial or any other kind of help to children with cancer, know, that the expenditures on the current activity of the organization " Children and parents against cancer " are covered by the members of the organization themselves- the parents of sick children.

Therefore every ruble which you donate to the children goes directly toward the purchase of medicines which are lacking in our hospitals and thus necessary for the treatment of the children.
